Yesterday, we went to Yufuin for a daytrip. Yufuin (由布院 ou 湯布院) is a small town one hour by car west of Oita, at Mt Yufu’s feet. It is especially famous for its onsen. It’s a pretty place, but kinda touristic…
We thought the rain would eventually stop and we would be able to enjoy, but we were deceived …. (;Д;)
We first went to see Kinrinko lake (金鱗湖), which is actually more of a pond… It was pretty, but the most surprising is that the water is warm ! (Because of the hotsprings).
There is also an onsen next to the pond, which is in an old traditional japanese house. The warm water run into the pond:
We then went to the shopping area; the town is filled with many small shops – coffee shops, souvenirs shops, museums – on cute buildings. It was a pity it kepta raining and we couldn’t fully enjoy it…
For lunch, we settled for something very typical… Brugers ! 😀 But really, it was worth it:
After that came the best part of the day: since we came all the way to Yufuin, we had to try an onsen ! Like I said, neither Salome, Ben nor Miki were interested, so I ended going with Yu, just the two of us. I choose one called »Musouen » (夢想園), which had a gorgeous view on the mountains. I highly recommand it !!
It was kinda scary to go there by myself at first, a white girl alone surrounded by Japanese women, and I was scared to be seen as an intruder, but than I thought, what the hell, I had the right to be here, and I’m never gonna meet those women again anyway! It was really really worth going there !
After that, we went back to town to meet with the rest, trying to find an omiyage for Maa-kun. We didn’t stay long and soon took the road back to Oita.
